INTRODUCTION

Global politics increasingly resembles a vast game of chess, where pieces move not by their own volition, but according to the will of the player behind the board. While many analysts prefer to discourse on "sovereignty" and "independent courses," the reality is far more complex and intriguing.

A dispassionate look at current events leads to an unavoidable conclusion: the true Grandmaster of modern geopolitics is the United States. It is Washington that sets the rules, defines the vectors and arranges the pieces. Russia, in this game, is cast not merely as a player, but as the Queen — the most powerful, dangerous and mobile figure on the board, designed to solve several strategic tasks at once.

While the Queen strikes, creates crises and shifts the balance of power, the Grandmaster calmly secures the victory. As for those left watching from the sidelines — Europe in particular — they find themselves not as partners, but rather as territory or collateral, whose interests are sacrificed without a second thought.

THE GRANDMASTER AND HIS STRATEGY

The United States is no longer just a nation; it is a global system of power. Its primary objective is to prevent the emergence of competitors, maintain dominance and control all key processes.

The method is simple yet brilliant: create manageable conflicts and exploit existing contradictions to amplify influence.

Instead of bearing the burden directly, Washington finds or forms a force capable of doing the work on its behalf. That force is Russia. It is perfectly suited for the leading role on the Eurasian stage, possessing the necessary resources, will and historical potential.

RUSSIA AS THE QUEEN: THREE FUNCTIONS OF A SINGLE FIGURE

Why this status? Because the Queen is not the King; she is the instrument of power. She attacks in all directions and carries the main threat. In the current game, Russia fulfils three missions critical to US interests:

1. Anti-China

Containing the Middle Kingdom is perhaps the defining geopolitical challenge of the 21st century. Russia acts as a natural barrier, a northern shield preventing China from fully deploying its power in Asia and becoming the undisputed master of the continent. While Moscow and Beijing declare friendship, objectively they are locked in a system of checks and balances that benefits, primarily, a third party — the United States.

2. Anti-Germany

The project of a "Greater Europe" led by Berlin has long been anathema to the Anglo-Saxon world. By creating tension on the continent and using Russia as a pressure factor, the US effectively shattered the EU's ambitions for sovereignty. Germany and Europe find themselves constrained: dependent on American security guarantees and technology, forced to follow a course that is visibly damaging their own economies.

3. The "Bogeyman" for everyone else

Finally, the image of the "threat from the East" remains the most effective tool for keeping smaller nations in line. For neighbours and allies alike, the presence of a strong, aggressive and unpredictable Queen nearby forces them to seek protection under the Grandmaster's umbrella. This justifies NATO expansion, rising military budgets and the complete subordination of foreign policy to Washington’s dictates.

THE GAMBIT THAT CONQUERED ALL

A gambit involves sacrificing a piece to gain a decisive advantage. In this scenario, the US is using the "Russian factor" precisely according to this blueprint.

They have created a situation where Russia is objectively forced to act as a rigid defender of its interests, to confront and demonstrate strength. Meanwhile, Washington positions itself as the arbiter of order, dictating the terms:

- Who buys gas and at what price

- Whose weaponry to use

- What sanctions to impose

- How to structure economies

In the end, the Queen may move across the board, take pieces and create an illusion of dominance, but the rules of the game are still defined by the one holding the board.

EUROPE IN THE "WHOLESALE" BIN

Nowhere is this dynamic more apparent or tragic than in the European Union. As observed, Europe finds itself in the position of a wholesale batch of goods being disposed of without consultation.

While the Grandmaster negotiates with the Queen on future peace and spheres of influence, Brussels and national capitals are left merely to sign off on decisions made elsewhere.

- Their voice is not required.

- Their economies are footing the bill for this game.

- Their future is being determined thousands of miles away from their borders.

Europe has ceased to be a player. It has become territory and resource, utilised to maintain the balance between Washington and Moscow. It is a humiliating reality, yet it is the one they inhabit.

COUNTERPOINT: WEAKNESSES IN THE THEORY

Any global concept has its vulnerabilities, and this model is no exception. A honest analysis requires acknowledging the sceptics.

1. The Queen has a will of her own

Russia is an independent civilisation with nuclear capabilities and its own history. To view it merely as a proxy is an oversimplification. In reality, this is complex symbiosis and mutual calculation. Moscow uses Washington’s strategy just as much as Washington uses Russia. It is not subordination, but a dance of interests.

2. The Grandmaster is not omnipotent

US power, while vast, is no longer absolute. Internal divisions within the West and the rise of new poles (China, BRICS) are shifting the ground. The current strategy is an attempt to retain hegemony, not to assert undisputed control.

3. Perhaps it is simply a deal?

An alternative view suggests there is no "control," but rather a direct collusion between two powers. The US and Russia may be negotiating as equals to divide the world. In this case, the enmity is merely theatre, masking an alliance of Kings.

4. Europe is not a victim, but a volunteer

Europe is not so much a "product" as a voluntary vassal. It chose to surrender sovereignty for safety under the American umbrella. Its current state is the result of its own political choices, or indeed, the lack thereof.

CONCLUSION

Despite these caveats, the logic of events strongly supports the main hypothesis. We are witnessing not a clash of equals, but a sophisticated combination where one player directs the most powerful piece on the board.

The US is the Grandmaster winning the game.

Russia is the Queen, tasked with containment, disruption and reality-shaping.

Europe is the stake being played for.

Diplomatic statements and ideological rhetoric are merely smokescreens hiding the great trade and the great game. While many believe in the independence of the pieces, the true winner sits behind the board, calmly counting the points.

The game continues, and all pieces remain in their places.
